STATEMENT OF THE SOUTH AZERBAIJAN LIBERATION PARTY (GAQP)
ON THE STRATEGIC APPROACH OF THE REPUBLICS OF TURKEY AND AZERBAIJAN TOWARD SOUTH AZERBAIJAN
Recent military and political tensions in the region, the growing instability within Iran, and the movements of terrorist groups in border areas have created new security realities in the Caucasus and the Middle East.
Recent political developments in Iran indicate that the regime is moving toward a harsher security line as a result of a “soft coup” effectively directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Within this process, the elevation of Mojtaba Khamenei to the apex of the Persian-Shuubi regime by replacing his father clearly demonstrates that the Iranian dictatorship has entered a more closed and rigid phase.
This new political situation not only alters the security balance in the region but also brings the strategic position of South Azerbaijan further to the forefront.
The South Azerbaijan Liberation Party believes that no regional security policy can succeed without placing the South Azerbaijan factor at the center of efforts to ensure stability, security, and a lasting peace in the region.
In this regard, the strategic approach of the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan toward South Azerbaijan should be based on the following fundamental principles:
1. The territorial integrity and security of South Azerbaijan are essential for regional stability.
Turkey and Azerbaijan must prevent the establishment of terrorist organizations and illegal armed structures in the region and regard the territorial integrity of South Azerbaijan as an integral part of their regional security strategy.
2. The geopolitical unity of the Turkic world.
South Azerbaijan is an inseparable part of the Turkic world. Therefore, Ankara and Baku should take the South Azerbaijan factor into account within the framework of the Turkic world’s security and cooperation vision.
3. Humanitarian and political support.
The national, cultural, and political rights of the Turks of South Azerbaijan should be defended on international platforms, and the legitimate demands of the people of the region should be conveyed to the international community.
4. Preservation of regional stability.
In the event of political change or a transitional process within Iran, the protection of the national rights and security of South Azerbaijan must become a primary agenda for regional powers.
5. The shared future of the Turkic nation.
The strategic cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan should guarantee peace, prosperity, and coexistence throughout the broader Turkic geography, including South Azerbaijan.
The South Azerbaijan Liberation Party believes that the new geopolitical conditions emerging in the region will create an opportunity for the future and security of South Azerbaijan to be discussed more seriously at the international level.
GAQP supports the establishment of a new political order that promotes peaceful coexistence, stability, and mutual respect among the peoples of the region.
