STATEMENT OF THE SOUTH AZERBAIJAN LIBERATION PARTY (GAQP) REGARDING THE RECENT POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE
The Republic of Türkiye emerged from the Turkish War of Independence and was founded under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk upon the principles of national sovereignty, popular rule, the rule of law, and modern statehood. This Republic is not only the achievement of the Turks of Türkiye but also a source of pride and a shared legacy for the entire Turkic World.
The political and social tensions witnessed in Türkiye today, the growing concerns regarding the rule of law, and the questions surrounding the future of popular sovereignty and state institutions are matters of concern for the Turks of South Azerbaijan as well.
The state belongs neither to a political party, nor to any group, nor to any individual. The state is the common possession of the nation. The sole source of political authority is the will of the nation.
In an environment where the rule of law is weakened, confidence in the judiciary is eroded, the effectiveness of parliament is diminished, and differing opinions face pressure, the future of no nation can appear secure. The strength of the Turkish nation lies not in individuals, but in the supremacy of law, free thought, and national will.
The greatest legacy entrusted to us by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is the nation’s right and responsibility to determine its own destiny. Preserving the Republic means not only protecting its borders, but also safeguarding and sustaining its founding principles.
We believe that Türkiye’s future will be built upon stronger rule of law, greater freedom, stronger national will, and stronger state institutions.
We also consider the goal of a “Terror-Free Türkiye” to be important for the unity of the Turkish nation and the strengthening of the state. A Türkiye where terrorism and armed violence no longer cast a shadow over politics will make a greater contribution to peace and stability throughout the region.
We believe that the natural continuation of a “Terror-Free Türkiye” will one day pave the way for the realization of a “Terror-Free South Azerbaijan.” In every land where the Turkish nation lives, it is our most natural aspiration that the will of the people, rather than weapons; freedom, rather than fear; and law, rather than oppression, shall prevail.
As the South Azerbaijan Liberation Party, we reaffirm our commitment to the founding values of the Republic of Türkiye, the principles of Atatürk, national sovereignty, the rule of law, and the shared future of the Turkic World.
