Statement of the South Azerbaijan Liberation Party
on the Liberation of İzmir and the Founding of the Republican People’s Party (CHP)
On September 9, 1922, the city of İzmir was liberated from Greek occupation. This event marked the final stage of the European powers’ invasion of Turkey and concluded with the great victory of the Turkish nation’s War of Independence. Under the leadership of the Great Leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkey set forth on the path of the Republic.
On September 9, 1923, the first Republican Party established by Atatürk, the Republican People’s Party (CHP), commenced its official activity. With Atatürk presiding over its first congress, the CHP introduced political democracy to Turkey.
As the South Azerbaijan Liberation Party (GAQP), we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire Turkic nation, and especially to our compatriots in the Republic of Turkey, on the 103rd anniversary of the Liberation of İzmir and the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republican People’s Party.
